Analysis Of The Forming Process For Honing Machine Parts

As precision machining equipment, the forming process of its core components (such as the honing head, guide sleeve, and spindle) directly impacts the machine's machining accuracy and service life. The manufacturing of these parts requires a combination of material properties and functional requirements, employing precision forming technologies that integrate multiple processes.

Metal material selection and pretreatment are fundamental. Key components of honing machines are typically made of high-hardness alloy steel (such as Cr12MoV) or wear-resistant cast iron. Forging eliminates internal defects and improves metal fiber flow. Annealing is required after forging to reduce internal stress and allow for subsequent machining.

Combined precision casting and forging processes are often used for complex structural parts. For example, the oil groove structure on the inner wall of the guide sleeve is often produced using lost wax precision casting to create a near-net-shape blank, which is then finished by CNC turning. The honing head base, which is subject to alternating loads, is often die-forged to ensure structural density. For high-precision mating surfaces (such as the contact area between the spindle and bearing), a machining allowance of 0.2-0.5mm is required for subsequent finishing.

The in-depth application of specialized machining technologies ensures quality. The special-shaped holes in the honing stone mounting base are often formed using electrospark machining (EDM) to avoid the stress concentration caused by traditional drilling. Surface hardening treatment uses a vacuum nitriding process to form a 0.3mm thick hardened layer (with a hardness exceeding HV900) on the surface of the part, significantly improving wear resistance.

Modern honing machine component manufacturing is moving towards digital integration. 3D printing technology is used for rapid prototyping, and five-axis machining centers achieve micron-level dimensional control. Combined with online inspection systems, this forms a closed-loop process chain, ensuring that every part meets assembly accuracy requirements of ±0.01mm. These process innovations enable honing machines to achieve hole diameter tolerances of IT5 and surface roughness of Ra ≤ 0.2μm.
