Honing gear solution

Equipment Preparation and Commissioning
Gear honing is akin to giving gears a spa treatment, requiring the creation of an ideal environment first:
1. Honing Machine Calibration: Spindle radial runout must be controlled within 0.005 mm.
2. Hone Selection: Match grit size to the gear material (typically 80-120 mesh).
3. Cooling System: The oil mist injection angle must cover the entire meshing surface.

Core Operational Process
This precision process is carried out in three steps:
1. Rough Honing Stage: Employ axial feed to remove approximately 0.1 mm of stock.
2. Finish Honing Stage: Switch to radial feed, reducing speed to 60% of the rough honing rate.
3. Finishing/Burnishing Stage: Operate with no feed for 2-3 minutes to enhance surface quality.
Key Points for Accuracy Control
These details determine success or failure:
Temperature Monitoring
Pause for cooling if the machining zone temperature exceeds 20°C-35°C.
Hone Wear
Check contour accuracy after every 20 pieces processed.
Gear Clamping
Hydraulic fixture pressure is recommended at 0.5-0.8 MPa.
